Artist Statement
As a transman, I find it valuable to create work that sits in contrast with the rigid and violent nature of binaries. Therefore, in my broader ceramics practice I aim to translate the joy of fluidity I experience from embracing my unfixed trans identity. I seek fulfillment in struggling with the fixed materiality of ceramics by creating ceramic objects that possess mechanisms to transform through connection with other objects. To translate my joy in such a struggle, I utilize the mechanisms of lid galleries, flanges, and chain/link structures. Tactile interaction from viewers towards the objects in display further contributes to the transformation I am interested in achieving.
