My intention with this installation was to explore an aspect of identity creation. The forms are referencing a hand held drum called डमरू(damaru). I grew up listening to the डमरू being played during various hindu rituals and often found the constant beat of the drum energizing. A quick google search tells me the vibrations from a डमरू symbolize the energy of creation in hinduism. I grew up in a household where cherry picked hinduism was practiced so I don’t feel qualified to know if AI overview is lying to me. On the premise that I’m not being lied to and on the understanding that neither you or I will be learning sanskrit to truly verify the symbolism how about we go along with this for a little longer.
While the forms maybe hollow the textures on them undeniably stand out. The textures are inspired from things I have actively choosen in my life. They reference the cracks on the sidewalks i walk/bike and the cross hatched lines on trees I pass and thank regularly. The textures are an attempt at giving value to things in my present that are a direct result of past “choices”.
