When it comes to exploring themes of individual and collective identity I am committed to fired ceramics because of the material’s rigid yet simultaneously fragile nature. I seek fulfillment in struggling within the fixed materiality of ceramics by creating ceramic objects that possess mechanisms to transform through connection with other objects. I make functional and conceptual bodies of work with the aim of exploring destructive and generative qualities of communities and individuals. I have found performance art and installations to be fertile mediums to express nuanced realities of my life as a gender queer immigrant. The nature of craft that is inherent to ceramics functions to ground me in my various abstract explorations.
