Prayer for someone else, 2024
Ceramics
For Bhui Agua, I anchored my visual language within the objects found in places of worship in my hometown of Kathmandu. I grew up visiting hindu temples and buddhist stupas. As much as these places held spiritual value they also functioned as a social gathering space for people in the community.
Prayer wheels are generally found outside buddhist stupas. Often while people circumambulate the stupa they spin the prayer wheel. Prayer wheels contain scrolls of a mantra(chants) that is believed to be amplified with every spin.
The audience was orally instructed to write a compassionate note to an individual or a group of people and place it inside the Prayer Wheel jar. To amplify their notes of compassion they were instructed to spin the wheel in a clockwise direction.
