Damaru Rattle, 2024

Ceramics

Damaru Rattle was a part of the Bhui Agua show’s installation. For the show, I anchored my visual language within the objects found in places of worship in my hometown of Kathmandu.  I grew up visiting hindu temples and buddhist stupas. As much as these places held spiritual value they also functioned as a social gathering space for people in the community.

Damaru is a hand held drum that is used in various hindu ceremonies and other contexts. I grew up seeing only male priests having the opportunity to play the damaru.
